My guess is because it's a multi-billion-dollar industry. News giants, campaign consultants, politicians are all raking in cash, so why change it? Funny when people didn't want Biden to drop out because Kamala would *only* get 3 months to establish herself, which I'm fairly sure is longer than most countries' entire election cycles.
Granted, the U.S. is one of the few countries in the world without a Westminster-style Parliament. In those, there is no separation of executive and legislature branches, and the MAGA folks couldn't get away with a large percentage of their bullshit. The leader of our Conservative Party has found that out; by imitating Trump, he has gotten a great amount of push-back and punishment...
I moved to Toronto in the middle of the snap election and it was so bizarre to me how low-key it was. I'm no fan of the CPC by any means, but the MAGA-wannabes are in the clear minority and there isn't much of a popular mandate to advance a socially conservative agenda. The worst I've seen in Canada (at least in Toronto) is there seems to be a bit more xenophobia than I remember when I was in undergrad in Ottawa 10 years ago.
I've noticed a lot of similarities in the cultural agitations between Canada and the U.S. I assume the urban-rural divide is similar in most western countries.
Love this. It is amazing how they are not content with just a small
amount of crazy embodied in the Mango one himself, the whole campaign is so detached from normal life in the US but that they find crazy everywhere. Not just slightly crazy but full on batshit, let kill the immigrants and cut taxes for the “wealth creators”, this is the Greek chorus of democracy’s nightmares. Horrible people indeed, “but they were always going to disappoint—not because they are clumsy or insufficiently brutal, but because this politics is grounded in disappointment.”
I had a vague idea of who she was before this story, but I try to keep them out of my peripheries. Then I started learning more about her and realized she is a literal cartoon character.
I am still wondering about their inner circles. I mean, who these people hang around with and chat with when they are not out campaigning. And CEOs out doing public events are campaigning, not for office but for money.
They feed off each other. They try to “one up” each other in how to get votes and or money. The definition of a vicious cycle - though one that, in the long run, will be detrimental to the world…
Why do you Americans let your election cycles go so long? In Canada, we're legally allowed only one month of campaigning, and that's it.

There are less of us than you, but in both countries the urban/rural political separation is enormous.

Loomer is what happens when mental illness not only goes unchecked/untreated, but is encouraged.
And now in a presidential candidate’s ear… we live in a society
Laura taught me that it’s possible to be disappointed in someone you never liked, respected, or knew of.

Good thoughts…

It's the final stage of corporatism. The complete fusion of money in politics and politics for money.
😂
Good Sideshow Mel reference.

tossed in the garbage and retrieved by a dog who wrestles with it, bites it, and wagging it's tail, returns it to Laura.
