Finally getting round to reading/listening/commenting on these amazing top five lists!

That Brittany Howard album has received a lot of love. It has some fantastic tracks but also some that really don’t do it for me. One of my ironclad AOTY parameters is that I have to like every song on an album - there can be no skippable tracks and this album has a few for me.

The Geordie Greep album is . . . Intense! Your description of frantic, kinetic and mile a minute style is so on point! I’ve heard of but never listened to Black Midi. Not sure this album is for me, but my curiosity is certainly piqued! I’ll be revisiting it again for sure because there’s an awful lot there to like.

There’s no doubt that Jack White is a genius. Having said that, I’ve only been able to take his most recent album in small doses. That’s much more a function of the mellow music I’ve gravitated to this year than the quality of this album which is very good.

Godspeed! You Black Emperor is another band I’d heard of but never listened to. What I heard of when sampling the album is intriguing and compelling and I felt myself being drawn in. But I’m not sure it’s an album I’d go back to regularly. Thank you for your meaningful and important commentary on the hell that’s being visited on Gaza while the world watches and does what amounts to fuck all.

Vampire Weekend is a band I’ve only ever dabbled with and I’m not sure I even listened to the latest album. I’ll certainly check it out now given your description and the number one ranking!
