I’m embarrassed as well for not knowing the makeup of Hindu Love Gods or Electronic! I mean REM and all the people who are Electronic are among my absolute favorites!! But, to be fair, music news and information was a lot harder to access back then! A lot of it was word of mouth.
The ‘80s have also been a bit of a blind spot for me for a while. I never opened myself up to that decade until I was in college/mid-20s.
You’ll see it as I keep rolling out my best-of albums list for each decades (‘90s will be out next week), that my ‘80s listening is mostly the Smiths, New Order, REM, the Cure, Prince, and the Replacements lol.
That was a good chunk of my 80s listening - but just at the top of my list. I was in high school in the late 80s, so that was my decade 😝 While I was in my 20s in the 90s, I still have a preference for that decade because of the onslaught of women! And all the grunge bands!
Yep! Exactly my point! So many more of my favorites are from the 90s even though the 80s is the decade I grew up on. All of those that you mention are right up in my tops! Though I came to Sleater-Kinney later

But the ‘90s had Hole, Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Sonic Youth (also the ‘80s), Liz Phair, Mazzy Star, No Doubt—and that’s just rock!

Oh sorry I misread your comment! The ‘90s might be the GOAT decade for music.
No worries! Because absolutely! If someone told me I could only listen to one decade of music, it would 100% be the 90s!
Also never heard of Hindu Love Gods and I’ve actually been in love with REM since 1990!
