One of my wife's friends texted her that NPR piece, then my wife texted it to me, then I looked at the URL, then I told her it was published on Bari Weiss' blog, then my wife "emphasized" my response in iMessage, then she told her friend it was biased horseshit published on Bari Weiss' blog, then her friend -- a staunch progressive -- was triggered.
You gave the appropriate amount of attention that Bari Weiss deserves.
Bari Weiss appeals to the type of liberal who cares more about appearing reasonable to Republicans than standing up for their own beliefs. She's boring in the most irritating way possible.
But let's examine Biden's airline refunds 'just in time for election' altruism just a little closer. I would bet trying to actually get a refund will likely require you hiring a detective to dust for fingerprints to prove you were in that window seat on Flight 666. And even more horrifying to me is that if you are successful and said airline has to fork over that refund, the airline will then make up the financial difference by jacking up their ticket prices, leaving off another wing nut on the emergency door or hiring a robot to serve your peanuts. Think the Dems don't know that? At least Republicans are transparent about whose side they're on. "We know you have a choice of flying at least 1 airline today in your city so thank you for flying Uni-Party airlines. We hope to see you real soon, or not. We don't care."
For sure, it's a trademark "better than nothing" liberal solution, but I'll hand it to the Biden Admin that they have been solid on trust busting and cracking down on shitty business practices (granted, it's a very low bar to clear).
Solid like allowing Walmart to stay open during the pandemic but closing small businesses across America? Like allowing Bill Gates to own 80% of America's farmland and shutting out small farmers? Like allowing Black Rock and other hedge funds to buy up real estate to monopolize the rental market? Uh, huh. Love you Sam, but I don't buy that. Not for one bit. Both parties have been under corporate capture for a long, long time. Agree of not, I'm voting RFK, Jr. cause I want them to shit their pants and get some real leadership for a change.
All valid points. I'm no Dem cheerleader, but unfortunately, this is a bipartisan issue and as long as corporate lobbying, Super PACs, think tanks, and ideologically committed neoliberal hacks dominate American politics, nothing will change.
Yes,, yes, yes exactly. We need to stop distracting ourselves with the partisan labels and elect someone who is going to seriously address all of the above. Can only be done by a legitimate outsider.
“manufactroversies” — well played.
I didn’t invent it. I saw it on RationalWiki years ago and thought I’d bring it back.

Nothing was solved.

Dog days of politics indeed.
