"It contains the narcissism of Instagram, the ignorance of Facebook, the self-righteousness of Twitter, the epicness of Reddit, and the mental health of Tumblr." The mental health of Tumblr XD XD XD this is so spot on
Really enjoyed this and share the sense of frustration over the crazy impact of social media on discourse and society in general. I came off Facebook in 2016 as a response to their culpability in Trump v1, Snapchat and Tiktok because they were asinine and stopped the dalliance with Twitter once President Musk bought it. As you say, take the energy and do something positive, it will be needed later and the psychological damage incurred by not disengaging with the news cycle is considerable.
People focus on how logging off will make you less anxious, but I found more than anything else, I just got my mind back. I didn't realize how many of my opinions were influenced by the externalized manias on my newsfeed.
Also, I'm no longer convinced that following the news every day is that informative. It's just takes and knee-jerk partisan reactions to events. You don't learn about political POVs or any sort of analytical framework to make sense of things. I also find most mainstream publications have more or less become cheerleaders of the status quo, or just essentially kill your imagination for a better world, then try to convince you that believing in nothing makes you a virtuous and pragmatic person.

Had to throw it back to the OG millennial feels
As we say in Italian: you know your chickens!

Thank you! Glad my schizo thoughts resonated.
