I’ve already commented on On Repeat but I just wanted to say thank you, Sam for introducing me to Norman Fucking Rockwell. It’s genuinely been my find of this series. Also for actually featuring a few albums I already know and love! I’ve really enjoyed reading yours and Kevin’s takes separately and you have modelled beautifully how music lovers should respond to each other’s preferences. It’s been a lot of fun.

Thank you, Lou! The back-and-forth format was fun, and only sharing our picks 10 at a time made it all the better. it was a great idea- I wish I'd thought of it. lol.

Glad you had fun! I never thought I would love a Lana album until that one. It's just beautiful. What other albums to you have on your list?

Also stay tuned for our Top 10 albums in 2024, and we got a series in the works for 2025...

I love The Velvet Underground so was please to see that feature. Pet Sounds is also wonderful. I don’t know how it sounds so of its time but also groundbreaking. Personally, I think God Only Knows is the perfect love song. Good to see Arctic Monkeys in the mix too although I’d probably have picked AM as my choice. My own top albums would be based more on personal preference than critical acclaim or influence so I would be useless at compiling a meaningful list.

I get why AM would be the choice because it was a decade-defining mainstream rock record and gave them international popularity. I loved the album at first, but became more ambivalent to it over the years. Although I heard it live last summer with a backing band and the songs had a lot more muscle to them. But their debut is an indie classic that still made waves, and it came out when I was a teenager and just spoke to what I was going through growing up, even if its a distinctly British album.

Completely! I think a good list comprises objective and subjective criteria. I feel with AM that they achieved everything they could with a rock album hence the subsequent change of direction. Their debut is equally groundbreaking but I just remember being blown away when I first heard Do I Wanna Know? and those tracks all still feel fresh to me.

A big thank you to you and Kevin. Very happy to see The clash and the top 10 as well as Kate Bush and Marvin Gaye. Thanks to you two. I have a lot of albums to go back and revisit and some new albums to check out.
