Fresh from the salon and my hair is trimmed 0.5 mm with a blend of toffee and chestnut highlights to accentuate my natural brunette color. I arrive at my boyfriend’s place for dinner, a bit surprised we’re still on considering the last I heard from him was a text five hours ago, notifying me that he’s hungover and was a “hard maybe” for tonight. He opens the door and I ask him if he notices anything new about me. He pauses, and I’m not all that shocked because he still looks pale and clammy despite his v-neck sweater and Oxford shirt combo doing its best to hide his mangled disposition.
“Babe, how could I not notice your long shag with textured bangs? It gives a divine shape to the rest of your face and allows me to focus on the piercing stare you flash my way. And the layering is so subtle but grand. I want to run my fingers through it when we make love, just to feel the lightness in both your hair and your soul. You are my queen regardless of whether you choose toffee or caramel highlights.”
Overwhelmed with emotions, I lean in for a kiss before he sees my eyes glaze with an unexpected surge of gratitude.
Boyfriend’s inner monologue: “I’m getting the butt tonight!”
