Leaning in is more than a career mindset. I leaned into a deeper spirituality, a divine intervention that selected me to rise up the corporate ladder and enter a life of luxury. On my way to the Michael Kors outlet, I pass by several beggars holding a cardboard cup, shaking it so I can hear their coin-based pittance jangle inside, as if this is supposed to arouse some latent guilt inside me. If the cosmos didn’t want them to be poor, these plebs would’ve been granted the means to pull themselves out of this rut, or at least take a shower.

None of this is my problem. I got to where I am because I worked hard and paid my dues. Granted, I had some help along the way, but I acknowledge my privilege; I even read all of “White Fragility” and put #ACAB in my Insta bio after George Floyd was murdered. I deserve to treat myself. I deserve to have nice things. I deserve to have my status recognized.

I hold the Michael Kors bag in my hands and the leather feels like ecstasy against my fingertips. It’s a cool $10,000 because real boss bitches don’t wait for discounts. This isn’t just a designer handbag, this is a symbol of my enviable socio-economic position.

I am special. I am fortunate. I am blessed.
